Peter and I have been so touched by all the well-wishes, and interest in our wedding.  While we briefly talked about sharing our photos via a popular wedding blog or bridal site, it finally became obvious that  it would be the most personal and meaningful to share our special day with you right here on TCLB.

So here’s the plan… every Wednesday for the next few weeks we’ll have “Wedding Wednesday” on the blog, and I’ll personally share a specific aspect of our wedding (along with all of the AMAZING vendors) with you.  So without further ado… Here’s the first Wedding Wednesday, “Our Look”!

For morning-of makeup I called in my glamor girls over at Morgan Marie Beauty.  They’ve become my go-to makeup artists in the city, and their focus on dewy skin is perfect to get any gal wedding ready.  They did my make up, along with my 6 bridesmaids and mom, and everybody looked incredible!  When I was choosing my wedding vendors, I was very conscious to choose people who I wouldn’t mind having around for some of the more intimate moments on such a sentimental day, and Morgan and Marie are both such a pleasure to be with- they felt like family in the bridal suite while we got ready.

For hair, there was only one call to make!  Rhona and Danielle from Blowtique moved to Chicago from Ireland last year, and quickly became the go-to-gals for any hair related needs my girlfriends and I may have.  Needless to say, they’ve quickly become good friends of ours and it was a blast having them with us the morning of the wedding!

One of the biggest parts of “our look” was the help of Caroline Shaw, Chicago’s Wedding Dresser.  I wasn’t aware what a wedding dresser was before I began wedding planning, but she ended up being a lifesaver, and my mom and I both agree she was one of the most essential parts of the day.  Caroline was basically in charge of all garments, accessories, etc. for both the bridal party, as well as Peter and his groomsmen.  She steamed every dress, ironed every shirt, sewed on lost buttons, and took care of countless other wardrobe snafu’s I could have never anticipated!  Weddings go by quickly, but the day is long… Caroline takes it upon herself to make sure you look like you’ve just slipped into your dress at all times, when the reality is you’ve had it on for 5 hours and been around the city in a trolley.

My dress, a Valentino, was found when Greg, my best friend/Man of Honor, and I unexpectedly stumbled upon a bridal sample sale and struck gold.  I still feel like we won the lottery with that find!  It had to have quite a few alterations done, for which I went to The Dress Doctor, and then David’s Imperial had it all cleaned, steamed, and ready to go for the big day!

The crowning jewel of my accessories was this clutch by Atelier AZZA.  I also wore these shoes, my favorite perfume, and vintage earrings… that I was still deciding between until the last second! I eventually went with the pearl drops.

My handsome groom, Peter, wore a custom tux and shirt by J.Hilburn.  There’s so much focus on what the bride wears, that we really loved attention and detail they put into creating Peter’s wedding wear.  He opted for classic peaked lapels and grosgrain detailing on the tux, and then we headed to Saks for his accessories.  It turned out perfectly!

Peter also had the awesome idea to get classic black Ray-Bans for himself and his groomsmen.  They made for a lot of good photo-opps and a great gift!

I caved to the modern tradition of changing into a second dress for dancing later in the evening largely because I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to wear a beautiful custom gown by my dear friend, New York designer, Samantha Sleeper.  Sam sewed all the details of the dress of by hand, some just a day before the wedding in my apartment, and the result was truly stunning!  More on her creation later…

My something blue was my monogram and our wedding date stitched inside the hem of my first dress.  I had this done at The Dress Doctor along with my alterations.

You can’t have a winter wedding in Chicago with out an element of fur (real or faux- whatever floats your boat!)  For furs both for myself, and my bridesmaids, I turned to Chicago designer Christina Fan and her label, C/FAN.  As always, Christina pulled out all the stops.  She did a Pantone color match on my dress, as well as the girls’, created a custom bridal shawl for me, and reinvented a more versatile C/FAN classic for the bridesmaids so they could wear them again… seriously!

Here’s a bit of advice I have for any brides out there… No need to splurge on a veil!  I originally purchased an overpriced one from a bridal salon, but ended up falling in love with this one that cost $30 on Etsy instead.  Guess what the bridal salon veil was made out of?  Tulle.  Guess what the hundreds of beautiful veils on Etsy are made out of?  Tulle.  They were virtually identical!  Put that extra cash in the honeymoon fund… (or the wedding shoe fund!)

Seeing my friends and family for the first time in the bridal suite.

Due to the fact that we had an evening ceremony immediately followed by the reception we opted to have a “first look” around 2pm so we could spend some time taking photos with our amazing photographers around the city with our bridal party.  It was one of my favorite moments of the day!

All of our bouquets and boutineers were created by Janessa from Forget Me Knodt, our favorite florist in the city!

We did it!  More to come next Wedding Wednesday
