Friday, May 3, 2013 marked the School of the Art Institute Chicago’s 79th annual fashion show- The Walk 2013. The evening was truly inspired as collections from the SAIC students took to the runway, and Chicago’s most fashionable flocked to Millennium Park for what was undoubtedly one of the hottest tickets in town.
While the students and their collections were the real stars of the night, the show presented the sisters behind Rodarte, Kate and Laura Mulleavy, with the Legend of Fashion Honor. Melissa Sage Fadim was also honored as the Heart of Fashion Award Recipient.
Notable guests included Chicago fashion legend, Ikram Goldman, Paper magazine editorial director Mickey Boardman, artist and SAIC faculty member Nick Cave, and Nina Ricci designer Peter Copping, among others.
Following the incredible show, I was honored to be included in the amazing event and dinner that followed on the rooftop of the Harris Theater, where I was able to chat with the student designers, and had the honor of meeting the Mulleavy sisters among others. What a night! Here are some of the photos:

Some of the most highly anticipated looks of the night were designed by juniors Blair Disbrow, Jordan Kiehle, and Crystal Crubaugh, who incorporated crystals and stunning pieces of jewelry generously provided by presenting sponsor, Swarovski, into their etherial designs, as seen above.

I think we may have spotted a future Academy Award winning costume designer (or two!) in the senior class…
Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte accept their honor, and give an extremely gracious speech. These ladies are as down to earth as they are talented- very refreshing!
