When we saw these stools in the clearance section at West Elm I knew they were too good of a deal to pass up, however the natural wood and earthy canvas, while cool, wasn’t quite the right look. A bottle of wine, and a can of spray paint later and I had finished my favorite kind of DIY project… the kind that doesn’t look like DIY project when it’s done!
First, the cushions came right off with the help of a screwdriver.
Remember how in ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding’ the Dad can fix anything with Windex? I’m pretty sure we can fix anything with a can of high gloss black spray paint!

To “upholster” the cushions we opted for a couple of furry fun pillow covers, also from West Elm. Such an easy and inexpensive way to add a touch of glam to any space.
I slipped the stool tops right into the pillow covers, and simply sealed them with a staple gun. I was careful not to damage the original cushion covers, so there’s always the option to switch back in the future.
Viola! The finished product is two uber chic little stools that look as though they came from a boutique rather than a DIY project. They make great accent pieces, and will provide much needed extra seating for guests. Perfect for apartment living!
