When we first stumbled upon Michelle’s blog, Carpool, Couture and Cocktails, a few months ago we were far too distracted by her arsenal of pretty pumps and very photogenic pug to notice that the glamorous (yet, always down to earth) LA based mom and blogger just happens to be married to famous actor, Michael Chiklis.  It wasn’t until we saw the CBS star himself proudly discussing his wife’s internet success on a daytime talk show that we connected the dots.  Now this could speak to our flakiness, as Michelle frequently features her handsome hubby and beautiful family on the blog, or rather it could illustrate our initial disbelief that a blonde bombshell Hollywood wife could be as kind and grounded as Michelle is on her site.  These days we are hooked on Michelle’s lifestyle tips and tricks, which she delivers frequently with a sense of humor, and always while looking fabulous!  Join us in getting to know Michelle Chiklis of Carpool, Couture and Cocktails a little better:

You have a great sense of style. Who have been your biggest fashion influences?

I would have to say Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe. Audrey was all about style and grace and I wish I could dress more like her but sometimes I have to go the Marilyn route because of my curves.

What is your favorite “splurge” brand or designer, and what is your go to “save” brand?

My splurge is Alexander McQueen and my save is J.Crew.

As the mother of two girls, Autumn and Odessa, do you have any advice for other busy moms out there?

I try to schedule all my appointments by midday so I can be with my girls when they get home from school. 3:00 is the magic hour in my house. I am all theirs after three so my day starts pretty early so I can get things done!

Living in southern California, you have great proximity to so many fabulous places worth visiting. What are some of your other favorite weekend getaways?

Ojai, Palm Springs, San Diego, San Francisco, wine country, Carmel, the Monterey peninsula and of course, Vegas. California is a magnificent state with every kind of topography and lifestyle one could desire. All of these places are just a beautiful drive from our house so several times a year we try to take advantage of that by taking family road trips. Wherever you live in this country, I highly suggest taking advantage of the places within driving distance of your home as a family.

What is your all-time favorite far-flung destination, and what is on the top of your international travel bucket list?

There are so many places I love for different reasons but Italy is on top of my list. As far as the top of the bucket list is concerned, that would definitely be, the home of Michael’s ancestors, Greece. I know, I know… No one can believe we haven’t been there yet!

You also have a serious knack for entertaining. What are your essential entertaining tips?

A great party is all about your guest list. A party is only as fun as the people who are there. I happen to be married to a guy who is the life of any party. Michael is my secret weapon.  I’m also big on candles. Your house will smell great and sparkle, and everyone looks more beautiful in candlelight.

In the last year, what was the best party you threw?

Odessa’s Bat Mitzvah. I worked with Mindy Weiss and Amy Shapiro. They are my go to girls for big events. They helped  me  create a truly magical night.

You are quite the mixologist. What’s your cocktail of the moment?

elderflower champagne cocktail

What about you’re all time favorite classic?

Margarita on the rocks.

What do you think has been your biggest success with Carpool, Couture and Cocktails so far?

The most valuable part of it form me is when I receive comments from readers who have been moved by my blog or found it useful or just made them smile.  Meeting wonderful new friends like you through the blogger community as well and oh yeah, CCC was just in Life and style magazine!

You are a proud puppy mama. How do you spoil Ruby {a pug} and Lola {a golden retriever}?

I actually wrote a whole blog post on this! Lola’s the one who I spoil the most and that’s because she’s smaller and the most like a baby. Not because I love Ruby any less and trust me, Ruby is very spoiled as well, but Lola’s feet barely touch the ground!

You also happen to be married to actor Michael Chiklis. What is the most rewarding part of being a Hollywood wife, and what is the biggest challenge?

One of the biggest challenges is that he is on location a lot of the time, which can be one of the most rewarding parts too. We get to travel to wonderful places all over the world to visit him and wherever we go, we meet so many fascinating people. In fact, we’re heading out to New Orleans next week to spend some time with him on the set of his new movie. Jazz Fest here we come!

As far as the rewarding aspects of our marriage, there are more than I could list. I am grateful for our family and that we are in a position to do some good in this world.

With celebrity comes the opportunity to have your voice heard. What causes are you passionate about supporting?

Michael’s mother is battling Alzheimer’s disease so it is very dear to our heart and we also do a lot of work for Autism because we have so many friends who’s kids are afflicted with it.

You live a healthy lifestyle. What is your current workout of choice?

Soul Cycle. This isn’t just a spinning class, it’s a way of life and it works, not just physically but emotionally and spiritually as well.

You always look amazing. What are your favorite skin care products?

I try a lot of different products hoping to find the fountain of youth.  I definitely take after my grandmother who fought the aging process like a warrior!  I like Skin Ceuticals  C E Ferulic,  SkinMedica TNS Essential Serum, and  dermalogica active moist.

Do you have any beauty secrets you’re willing to share with us?

It’s really very basic and I want people to take this to heart. If you sleep well, drink plenty of water, eat lean and clean allowing yourself a cheat day a week and exercise at least five days a week, your life will improve dramatically. Stress is also a huge factor. If you don’t want to have a wrinkled face, avoid being stressed out because you will wear it on your face. If there are any lines I don’t mind having, it’s laugh lines so laugh often and hard!

I really think it’s important to hydrate.  I do a juice cleanse 4 times a year and drink a lot of water. I also sleep 7 to 8 hours a night. There’s a reason they call it beauty rest.

You consider yourself a “Jackie-of-all trades.” What do you see as your biggest passion?

Fashion is my passion. Whether I am cheering Odessa on from the sidelines in my Isabel Marantz sneakers, or in an Armani gown for the golden globes with Michael, it all stars with my outfit. What I wear is a reflection of how I feel about myself and who I am.

Any parting words of wisdom you would like to share?

I always tell my kids, do something that you love and you will never have to work a day in your life. That is how I feel about blogging.
