When Amelia starting redoing her kitchen the old black appliances had to go!  However, that’s easier said than done on a twenty-something’s budget.  So after replacing the refrigerator and microwave, it was clear that the old dishwasher would have to wait awhile.  After all, it worked perfectly… it was just… well, really outdated.

Then came an idea- chalkboard paint!  We had extra chalkboard paint, available at any hardware, left over from Amelia’s foyer closet (that’s another post, for another day) so we figured why not roll it on the old dishwasher and see how it goes?  Originally, we thought there was no way it would stay put on the slick surface… we used no primer, and there was no sanding… but after a few months we’re pleased to report- it’s AWESOME!

Just by rolling two coats of chalkboard paint, we created a chalkboard finish which is now used daily for messages, to-do lists, recipes, measurements, etc.  The best part is there’s now no rush, or plan, to replace the dishwasher.  In fact we’d prefer the personalized chalkboard to a boring stainless steel model any day.  As you can see there were also other improvements made to the kitchen, but again, that’s another post for another day.  We can’t wait to share it with you!
