Here’s a fun fact I don’t think I’ve shared on the blog before… I have naturally curly hair.  In the above photo I took a shower, nicely bushed it, and let it air dry… yikes.  I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned my curly hair before because after trying to wrangle this mess everyday the last thing I’m in the mood to do is talk about it.  My hair is almost always frustrating to deal with, and has caused many headaches and even a few tears over the years… getting ready for middle school every morning was a nightmare!

Now here I am, eight months pregnant, a little swollen and a lot self-conscious.  The last thing I need is crazy hair, or the stress and time it takes to deal with said crazy hair every morning.  Enter one of my biggest beauty secrets: professional blowouts.

There are countless blowout salons popping up all over Chicago, and what I once thought of as an unnecessary luxury has turned into a weekly requirement for me.  I used to go back and forth on whether I wanted to handover the money for a blowout, but eventually came to realize that a blowout quickly pays for itself with all the time it frees up elsewhere throughout the week.  Just Google “opportunity cost”.

Yesterday I headed out to my neighborhood Hair Cuttery, where for less than $20 total Betzy gave me an awesome blowout and styling that should last for about a week.  There’s no denying the difference between these before and after pictures!  The trick to making it last is a good dry shampoo, I’m currently loving this one, and a nice serum for dry ends doesn’t hurt either.  Do you have curly hair?  What are your favorite tips, tricks and products?  I’d love to hear!

naturally VERY curly hair – love to use a nourishing oil after a wash to make my hair more manageable. when i do curl/scrunch and let it air dry…i use straightening balm instead of (or with) curling gel…helps to relax the curls. i agree though, nothing better than a blowout… just got one myself :)

As someone with super straight hair, I have the opposite problem! I would love some natural volume. By the way, does that mean you only wash your hair once a week? I wash mine 2-3 times/week, but I don’t know how I could last a whole week.

Haha, the grass is always greener! I normally end up washing it about twice a week (and of course more if I’m working out, etc.) but the dry shampoo does a really good job in between, and I definitely have drier hair than most so that helps (or hurts depending how you look at it, lol).

My curly hair just doesn’t stop! It’s really hard to find someone who can really blow out my curls! I usually do it myself so I know it will look right. I love a good moisturizing oil!
