If you’ve been reading for a while you know we love to redo furniture and give vintage/antique pieces a second life.  One of our favorite places to pick up great pieces to revamp is Furnishly.  You can imagine our excitement when we stumbled upon this amazing mid century record cabinet under Mr. Modern’s Furnishly listings.  Amelia didn’t need a record cabinet… but she was looking for a new bar, and this piece was just the right size!

Materials:  Benjamin Moore Aura Paint in Decorators White | Martha Stewart Gold Metallic Glaze and Clear Primer/Sealer | Power Sander (or sand paper) | Painters Tape

The wood gain on this piece was too beautiful to loose all together, so by using painters tape to preserve the front wood panels we were able to paint only the area we desired white.  The tape came in handy once more when it came time to paint the inside gold, after removing the record slots so that the cabinet could be easily utilized as a bar.

The finished product!

Complete with a gilded look on the inside…

Wow, this is timely. My husband and I are tired of using our old coffeetable to hold our liquor supplies and we have been hunting antique stores for something unique. Maybe we could turn something I think is ugly mid-century modern into something that is a DIY masterpiece. I’m just not that good at these kind of projects, but love what you did!
