The only way to start this post is by apologizing for the radio silence over here in my little corner of the internet.  Or maybe I should just say “Hi Mom”, in case she’s the only one still checking for new posts.  It’s been a few weeks since my last post because life has been busy!  Specifically, I’ve been busier than I ever could have imagined with my design business.  I currently have over a dozen clients, including a couple commercial projects- a boutique and a restaurant.  The good news is that all these fun projects are providing endless inspiration for upcoming posts and I’m hoping to have the blog back at full steam shortly.

Now that you’ve forgiven me for the brief hiatus (thanks, Mom) how about the fun story behind this black and white nursery? It’s also being featured over on Style Me Pretty Living today.

I created this nursery for a client in Highland Park who was expecting identical twins, but not finding out if they were two girls or two boys until they arrived.  The initial design concept was a bold, gender neutral, black and white nursery.  At 30 weeks pregnant, just as we were having the room painted, Abby gave birth to two beautiful baby girls, Jayden and Payton.  The girls were healthy but had to spend a couple months in the NICU which gave me just enough time to prepare the nursery for their arrival home.  Even though I ended up knowing the room was intended for two sweet girls, we decided to stick to our initial black and white theme while adding a soft feather fixture as a subtle feminine touch.

The illusion of a chair rail, created with just paint, and the bold black doors are some of my favorite features.  The rug and marque letters feel whimsical, while the curtains and light fixture soften things making it the perfect place for Abby to bring her sweet baby girls home.
